Learning bird songs and calls might be difficult, but it should be fun.

In the two pages linked to this one, are some questions and tips to both test yourself, and show how we talk about the birds we hear on the courses.

When you hear a bird, try to describe to yourself what it sounds like, what mood it’s in or what it reminds you of. Compare it with other birds you know, think about the habitat and time of year. Is the bird alone or in a group? Is it giving visual signals as well as sounds?

Hopefully, you’ll also see the bird and be sure of its identity. Next time you’ll be more likely to recognise it even if it’s not visible.
